Attention, J.K. Rowling fans: she just announced her latest project, and it’s awesome for the whole family!
Her new book, The Ickabog, will be published for free online in daily installments over the next seven weeks. (Important to note: The Ickabog isn’t about Harry Potter and it doesn’t include magic. It’s an entirely different story.)
Now here’s the really cool part: Rowling is inviting kids (7- to 12-year-olds) to illustrate it!
Each day, she’ll offer art suggestions for what the kids might draw. Once they submit their artwork, there’s the chance to have it included in the printed version of the book. (There are different editions based on geography; the official rules and submission process are available online. Parents, you’ll need to help your kids with this.)
Want to share the artwork on Twitter? Use the hashtag #TheIckabog and J.K. Rowling might share and comment on it! 🙂
Here’s the icing on the cake: when the book is published in November, all of her royalties will be donated to help those affected by the coronavirus. We’ve got all the feels for an awesome author who continues to inspire us.
The project just launched, so now is a great time to get started. Three installments have been published so far (Chapters 1 – 8 are available). The book (and all competition details) can be found at The Ickabog.
P.S. If you need a Harry Potter fix, all 8 Harry Potter movies are available on the newly-launched HBO Max. Happy watching!
